Chinese Medicine Dispenser II

Responsibilities:

   Dispensing and Preparation

• Accurately interpret and dispense Chinese medicine prescriptions from CMPs, including CM herbs, CM granules,  and proprietary Chinese medicines;
• Perform precise weighing, measuring, and packaging of CM drugs according to prescription requirements and standard operating procedures (SOPs);
• Prepare and process herbal medicines as needed, including frying, roasting, or other process techniques as per hospital protocols; and
• Operate and maintain dispensary equipment, such as electronic scales, granule dispensers, and packaging machines.

   Quality and Safety Assurance

• Conduct thorough quality checks on all dispensed medicines to ensure accuracy in ingredients, dosage, and patient labeling before issuance;
• Monitor and maintain optimal storage conditions for all herbal medicines to preserve their potency and safety;
• Identify and report any discrepancies in prescriptions, substandard herbs, or potential drug-herb interactions to the supervising CM pharmacist; and
• Strictly adhere to all CMHHK safety, hygiene, and infection control protocols within the dispensary;

   Patient Service and Education

• Provide clear and courteous service to patients, explaining dosage instructions, preparation methods (e.g., how to decoct herbs), and storage requirements; and
• Assist in patient registration, appointment scheduling, and payment processing as required.

   Inventory and Administrative Duties

• Assist in inventory management, including stock receiving, sorting, shelving, and conducting regular stock takes;
• Monitor stock levels and report low inventory to the manager in a timely manner;
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient working environment; and
• Accurately update patient records and dispensing logs in the Hospital Information System (HIS).

Requirements:

• A recognized Diploma in Chinese Medicine Dispensing from a reputable institution or higher;
• Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in a Chinese medicine dispensary;
• Solid knowledge of Chinese Materia Medica, including herb identification, properties, and common CM processing methods; and
• Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese.
