The South East New Territories Landfill (SENT Landfill) is one of the three strategic landfills in HongKong. The contract to develop and manage SENT Landfill was awarded to Green Valley Landfill, Ltd(GVL) in August 1993.

Complementing the development of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s waste management policy, theSENT Landfill was designated to receive only construction waste since 2016. In 2017, it started to exportlandfill gas to the TownGas plant for processing and injection into their grid, hence turning waste intoresources and providing a new source of energy to Hong Kong. At the end of 2019, GVL commencedconstruction of an extension of SENT Landfill as the original site was nearing full capacity. Theextension will provide an additional capacity of 6.5 million cubic metres of waste.
