Pastor / Director of Team & Operations
The responsibilities of this role includes but are not limited to the following:
a) As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, help shape the vision, strategy and direction of MIC. Assist the Leadership Team to deliver a financial plan to achieve objectives and a HR plan to develop a highly trained, motivated and empowered staff team.
b) Manage all people-related functions, fostering a spiritually healthy, legally compliant and mission-driven workplace.
c) Work with the Senior Pastor to help build a healthy culture of trust, collaboration and teamwork amongst staff, devising programs and initiatives which support that culture.
d) Develop and implement creative People strategies that align with the vision and the needs of MIC, ensuring MIC continues to be innovative and forward-thinking in HR thinking and practice.
e) Provide leadership and management on issues arising within the employee relations sphere, with a focus on cultivating a biblically-grounded and God-honouring culture in the handling and management of conflicts. f) Continuously champion best People practice, to ensure our people – our most important resource – work in an environment in which they can thrive and grow as they serve and lead. g) To lead and manage the overall day-to-day HR functions of the church, including recruitment, contract preparations, onboarding, terminations, staff reviews, HR policies, staff benefits, safeguarding, health, safety and compliance with government regulations and labour laws.h) Responsible for the contents of the employee handbook and ensuring new and or revisions to policies and procedures are added through regular reviews and updates, with clear communication plans to staff.
i) Oversee all finance and accounting functions, line manage accountant on deliverables for monthly reporting.
j) Facilitate and engage in strategic dialogue with the Senior Leadership Team and church committees regarding ministry direction, operational priorities, and fiscal planning.
k) Manage all Church insurance needs and renewals.
l) Assist the Senior Leadership on Governance - policies and internal control processes, ensuring these are being adhered to. Build a structure for regular review of operating practices, and policies, update and implement improvements as appropriate.
m) Coordinate project-based work and perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
Relationships
This senior role is a vital role in the life of the church. The holder will be expected to attend weekly staff devotions and regular prayer retreats. The post holder reports directly to the Senior Pastor and is a member of the Executive team. The post holder will be a member of the Finance Committee, HR Committee and will also work closely with the Treasurer and lay leader responsible for HR.
Qualification / Skills / Background
• Faithful Christian and spiritual maturity is a must.
• Demonstrated experience in church environments with comprehensive understanding. of ministry functions and interdepartmental collaboration, whether as a staff member or as a volunteer.
• Comfortable engaging with financial concepts and basic accounting practices.
• Good sense of internal control practices and procedures.
• Ability to lead, manage, advise, provide feedback and motivate team members.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and is able to engage and communicate effectively with stakeholders and staff at all levels.
• Able to work with the Finance Committee to set financial goals and budgets and to exercise fiscal oversight of allocated funds.
• Good analytical skills / strategic thinking.
• A pastoral heart and instinct, with a passion for people development.
