Surprise in Life

Gifts are Coming!

"Surprise!" This is the most classic sentence we often hear in our daily lives. Do you remember the last time you received a surprise? Whether the surprise is good or bad, do you accept it? To be honest, I don't like surprises. Especially when your situation is bad enough and you still have bills to pay and responsibilities to bear. I often prepare surprises for myself. In fact, these are not surprising. These are rewards when you complete tasks. I call them surprises because I don’t know what I’m going to have in store for myself. Just like your company is hosting a year-end party and you are invited to attend. You will get unexpected rewards after the event.

We may have plans for our personal goals. You may already have the upcoming weeks scheduled. People don't like their plans disrupted when they settle down. However, surprise often breaks into your life without any signs. One of my cousins got his biggest surprise when he was eighteen years old. He quite enjoyed his drag racing life. He enjoyed the moment of speeding. When he accelerated, his vision got narrowed, and the accident happened. He broke his legs. What's worse was that the accident made him paralyzed. He has to sit on the wheelchair for the rest of his life. He was supposed to be a bridegroom after two weeks. They had no choice but to cancel the wedding. They held the wedding after his recovery. It had been two months later since the accident happened.

You might be wondering, why me? Why did it fail when it should have passed? When you think your destiny has thrown you into a bad cycle, it doesn't. Your destiny just helps you adjust the imbalance and get balance. For my cousin, he enjoyed a fast life but ignored his family's concerns, the potential risks, and irreversible consequences. So his destiny forced him to stop and change the life he used to be. Have you ever heard of death from overwork? People work hard, stay up, and work day and night to achieve a better life. Ultimately, unbalanced life lead to their deaths. They die at their desks without a chance to have fun. High-pressure life allows people to achieve success, fame, and wealth in the short term. At the same time, they must give up something to maintain their fast-paced life. After all, you can't have your cake and eat it.

You'd better redefine the meaning of surprise. Obviously, the occurrence of  surprise isn't by chance. There is an endless cycle in our lifespan. If we don't follow the cycle and break out of it, surprises will happen and lead us back to the original path. It can be painful. It might push you to the bottom of the mountain, and you have to climb it again. Or maybe you are good enough to open another door in your journey. It's like a final exam, reviewing what you learned on your last trip and what you can do for your next trip. This is not a negative period. Rather, it gives you a preparation period to strengthen yourself before your upcoming trips.
