Thoughts after Watching "the Help"

Before watching this movie, I thought it was about how people help each other. The story took place in Jackson, Mississippi. Jackson is the capital of Mississippi and the most populous city in the state. According to Forbes, the city ranked third on the list of the 100 cheapest cities in America in 2009. However, it also ranked 23rd on the 2009 list of cities with the highest crime rates in the United States.

Racism is a long-existing issue in the United States. Despite the efforts of many celebrities and politicians to eliminate prejudice, racism persists. There is no doubt that America is a melting pot due to its complex human makeup. However, the compatibility is not as good as we think. They are divided into different cliques based on their background.

The movie is probably set in the 20th century. I can see women of that time having their own power. They could speak for themselves. They were not only involved in the home but also in politics. Men were still the breadwinners. Women were good at socializing. Even in the white world, discrimination, and social bullying still exist.

The heroine is a writer with a free heart. She chronicles stories that happen to maids. Each character comes to life and everyone who lives in the city will be inundated with a multitude of feelings when they read maids' stories. A maid is like a secretary or a housekeeper who knows every detail of the house. From the movie, I realized that everyone is like a book. Never judge a book by its cover. They have their own adventures and pasts. Unless we write for them, their stories will be left behind.
