Watercolor tutorial: Water drop with reflection | Terry Tin

First, cover the paper on each side use the watercolor trap, and mask the branch and water drop with masking ink. Make sure the masking ink is dried, now we prepare the color in the color palette, I love to use the flower shape color palette; because I can mix the color from light to dark. The grass background color list: Green Light, Sap Green, Viridian Green, and Ultra Marine.

Use the 2” flat brush adds thin water on the surface, then paint the Green Light all around the area and mix the Sap Green, paint the middle values of grass,

Preserve the shape of the flower on the bottom right.

Mix some Viridian Green and Ultra Marine inside Sap Green and paint the dark area to make more contrast, light -> middle -> dark.

Wait for dry or use a hair dryer to blow it slowly. Wet the flower area with water, use lemon yellow with a drop of Burnt Sienna to paint the stamens, and add more Burnt Sienna to make the shadow.

Add more details on grass and flower shape but keep everything feather. Time to take a rest, drink some tea or water, eat some snacks. When dried, remove the masking ink carefully, and make sure all the masking ink is removed.

Start to paint the water drop reflection with a green color tone using the grass background, need to keep a thin line surrounding the water drop, it will look more realistic.

Don’t forget the flower reflection, it will appear on two big drops

Now prepare the branch color list: Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, and Black.

Wet the branch and paint the Burnt Sienna for first values and mix the Burnt Umber for middle values. Currently, use a pointed brush #4 to remove the color on the shape of a drop.
