Why is Taiwan becoming the top overseas education destination for Filipinos?

Overview: Taiwan and the Philippines have a long history of friendship, cooperative cultural and economic activities, shared development objectives, and a shared desire for independence and peace.

The establishment of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in 1975 to strengthen and advance relations between the Philippines and Taiwan marked the beginning of these bilateral benefits and developments for the two neighbors. And as evidenced by the two nations' strong existing relations, this has paid off over time.

For many years, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines has offered a variety of scholarships to Filipinos interested in studying in Taiwan. The Philippines is Taiwan's nearest southern neighbor and in recent years, Taiwan has emerged as a favored tourist destination for Filipinos looking to unwind. While Taiwan has a diverse range of gorgeous sites, a strong culture, an economical living environment, and wonderful food, it is definitely one of Asia's most robust educational systems. And for this reason, in addition to the several scholarships offered by TECO, an increasing number of Filipino students are eyeing Taiwan as a destination for their diploma programs while learning Mandarin at the same time. Taiwan is home to some of the world's kindest people and is regarded as one of the safest places to live.

Additionally, Taiwan permits foreign students to work while they are enrolled in classes. This increases the overseas students' prospects for future work while giving them additional money to cover their living expenses and educational expenses.

The following scholarships are provided to the Filipinos who wants to pursue their diplomas in Taiwan.

  1. Ministry of Education (MOE) Scholarship
  2. Huayu (Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarship
  3. International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF)

For further information regarding these scholarship programs, you may check the “STUDY IN TAIWAN” section found in the official website of TECO in the Philippines at https://www.roc-taiwan.org/ph_en/cat/36.html or contact TECO's Education Division at [email protected].
