8. Revise later

Writing is one of the most important skills that every writer should master. The only problem is that most writers don’t have enough time to practice their craft. They spend hours editing their texts before they even begin to type out what they really want to say. When you edit, you’re essentially rewriting your text from scratch. This means you’re wasting time and energy. To be able to write faster, you should stop editing your work as soon as possible.

To speed up your writing, you should stop editing while you write. This way, you won’t waste time rereading and rethinking your words. Instead, just concentrate on typing out your ideas. Once you start typing, you’ll notice that it’s a lot easier to type your ideas than to revise them in your head. This is because it’s easier to read an idea than it is to interpret it. Since you’re typing and not editing, you’re focused on writing rather than editing. This is why you’ll likely see your speed increase.

9. Read reviews

Read reviews and write down their suggestions. When you take the time to actually sit down and do this, you will come across all sorts of brilliant strategies that you can incorporate into your work. For example, you could change the tone of your paper, add a new section, or even cut a few ideas and keep the ones that are truly vital.

When you learn something from someone else’s work, it is always helpful to write it down. This way, you’ll remember it when you need it. Even if you don’t take the time to write, you’ll probably be able to find the critique in one of your papers later on.

10. Give yourself time

Writing isn’t about the time you spend writing. There are people who can write for three hours a day, but it’s not going to make them any better. The same goes for someone who can only write 30 minutes a day.  What really matters is your level of dedication. If you’re putting in the effort to write a good paper, then you’ll see progress in your writing speed.

Don’t get discouraged if you get stuck and have to restart your research. If that happens, take a break for a bit, then continue. This can be a very short break, or even a short siesta. However, you don’t want to get too relaxed or you’ll lose the drive to get back to work. It’s all about giving yourself time to work on your paper.

11. Seek good posture

If you’re slumped over a keyboard, then you’re not working at your best. Good posture is necessary for achieving any level of efficiency. If you’re slumped over a keyboard, then you’re not working at your best. If you have an uncomfortable writing chair, then you’re not going to have the best posture. You should use a chair that allows you to lean back and relax.

Another thing you can do to increase your productivity is to position yourself in a way that lets you to stretch your legs and take a break.

12. Eliminate distractions

My final tip for writing faster is to eliminate distractions. If you have a web browser open, then shut it down. It’s an easy way to get your work done quickly without getting distracted.

If you're doing work on a computer, then turn off any notifications that pop up. This means that you won’t have any alerts when there’s something new on your page.

The same goes for your phone. If you’re constantly interrupted with notifications, then your work will suffer.

13. Keep focused

One of the best ways to increase your writing speed is to focus on the task at hand. In other words, don’t get distracted. You shouldn’t have any unnecessary distractions while writing. If you’re writing something important, then you should keep your mind in the same place. This means that you should only get work done when you’re in the mood. However, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t look for distractions. Don’t feel guilty if you surf Twitter for a few minutes.

Get creative by writing about a subject that interests you. Just don’t read it for pleasure and don’t get distracted by the graphics or the font.

14. Use rewards

People use rewards to motivate themselves, but you can also use rewards to your own advantage. Many writers use rewards to motivate themselves to write. For example, they write for a few minutes, then take a short break and write for another 10 minutes.

15. Play typing games

If you like playing games on your computer, try playing typing games. These will help you improve your typing speed because it’s something that you enjoy doing. If you enjoy typing on your computer, then you’ll be much more motivated to write faster.  You can also try other games, such as Tetris, Boggle, or Scrabble.

That’s all the tips that I have for you for writing faster. I’ll be back again to discuss more effective writing strategies in future articles. Thanks for reading, and happy writing!
